A Notary Public is a specialist attorney admitted in South Africa who has also submitted himself/herself to the Notarial exams and has been admitted as a Notary Public. A Notary has specific powers to attest to certain acts of law. Notaries often attest to the authenticity of signatures (e.g. signatures to an antenuptial contract) and certify the authenticity of copies (e.g. authentication of official South African Government documents for foreign authorities).
